A generation buzzing with ambition to serve India | Hyderabad News

At the Commando Training Academy in Secunderabad, the phones have been ringing off the hook, since the Supreme Court’s directive allowing women to take the NDA test, was issued. Officials here say they are flooded with calls from girls enquiring about the National Defence Academy exam.
“Many are calling to get their doubts cleared on age criteria, syllabus, nature of training,” said Colonel Venugopal Nairfrom the Academy, hailing the SC ruling. “It is important that the country gets the most qualified officers, irrespective of their gender,” he added Saniya Ali, a 17-year-old who registered for the NDA exam, said, “Instead of completing graduation and trying to get into services later, I want to try NDA now. I will save three years.
All I want to do is serve the country.”
Saniya’s father Afroz said that he wanted to see one of his children in uniform. “My son will not meet the required criteria as his weight and chest size are less. All my hopes are now on my daughter,” Afroz said.
