Calcutta High Court Bar Association gets new executive committee | Kolkata News


KOLKATA: Senior advocate Arunava Ghosh on Wednesday was elected as the new president of Calcutta High Court Bar Association.
In a keenly contested election, Ghosh defeated his two rivals by winning 1,150 votes. Advocate Kallol Mondal was elected the vice-president, Biswabrata Basu Mullick the secretary, Sonal Sinha and Wasim Ahmed assistant secretaries, and Joydip Banerjee was elected as the treasurer.
Trinamool-supported candidates had an edge with four among the six top office bearers winning the elections. In the newly formed nine-member executive committee, seven candidates, supported by Trinamool, won, while the remaining were won by BJP. Ghosh, an outspoken Congress leader, had the backing of his own party and the Left Front. Mondal was supported by BJP.
