cbi: Gauhati high court raps CBI for ‘botched’ probe into twin murder case | Guwahati News

GUWAHATI: Gauhati high court while upholding a trial court verdict, has rapped the CBI for its “botched investigation” and “poorly conducted trial” into the twin murders that took place in the heart of Guwahati 26 years ago.
The CBI had filed an appeal before the high court against a Kamrup (M) lower court judgment which acquitted Bhagya Kalita (A-1) and Fatiur Ali (A-2) in 2017 who were accused of killing one Karabi Das and her daughter Dubori Das at their rented house at Ambari here. The third accused, Bhupen Medhi, is still absconding.
After the hearing, the high court found that there is “no evidence to prove” the charge brought against the accused and dismissed the CBI plea.
“The learned trial court has passed the impugned judgment acquitting the accused nos. 1 and 2 due to want of evidence against them. After a meticulous analysis of the materials available on record as well as on examination of the impugned judgment and order dated 22/07/2017, we do not find any good ground to disagree with the findings of the learned trial court,” the September 15 court order said. The HC directed to send an authentic copy of this judgment to the CBI director, inviting his attention to the issues raised in the judgment to enable him to take appropriate action in the matter.
