Former CJI to attend Sir Syed Day-2021 as Chief Guest – India Education | Latest Education News | Global Educational News




Aligarh : Former Chief Justice of India (CJI), T S Thakur will be the Chief Guest during the Sir Syed Day celebrations in the University on October 17. The functions will be held in virtual mode.

Aligarh Muslim University celebrates Sir Syed day to mark the birth anniversary of its founder Sir Syed Ahmed Khan (1817-1898). However, in wake of Covid-19 Pandemic, various events will be held in online mode to commemorate the Sir Syed Day function. The event will be webcast for public viewing.

The programmes will start with Quran Khwani and Vice Chancellor Prof. Tariq Mansoor will pay floral tribute at the Mazar of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. A virtual exhibition of books and photographs related to Sir Syed Ahmed Khan will be held at Sir Syed House.

A connoisseur of Urdu literature, Justice T S Thakur has served as 43rd Chief Justice of India. Earlier he has also served as an Additional Judge of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court followed by as a Judge of the Karnataka High Court. He was later appointed as Acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court and later took over as Chief Justice of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana prior to his elevation as a Supreme Court Judge. Justice T S Thakur has delivered many high-profile and important judgments.

During the online celebrations of S S Day, Vice Chancellor Prof. Tariq Mansoor will deliver the welcome address. The Sir Syed Excellence award-2021 will be presented to eminent theorist Gopi Chand Narag in national category while British historian Prof. Francis Robinson will be awarded in international category.

The winners of All India Sir Syed Essay Writing Competitions will also be felicitated. Several other programmes will be held in University to mark Founder’s Day celebrations.
